Victoria Withington 6–1 Navigation
A balmy evening at the Victoria saw the home side dismantle The Navigation 6–1, rattling in five 180s and producing their best team display of the season so far. They took the gallon 2–0, a competition in which they are yet to drop a leg, and barely looked back from there on in.
Toni Wieczorek got things moving with a 3–1 win in Game 1, firing in a 180, checking out on 75, and hitting an 18-dart leg, finishing with a 65.74 average for good measure. Kev Kelly offered resistance with a 20-darter and an 86 finish, but couldn’t prevent the opener from going the hosts’ way. Game 2 was Navigation’s only highlight of the night as Chris Stone edged out Connor Wigley 3–1, both players putting in superb numbers. Stone’s 70.88 average was aided by a 180, a 19-darter and six ton-plus scores, but Wigley, with a 70.37 average, matched him blow for blow landing seven 100s including a 106 checkout in reply.
From there, it was all Victoria. Terry Jepson swept aside an out-of-sorts Callum Loose 3–0 in Game 3, banging in a 180 and averaging a match-best 75.15, while Jack Jarvis followed it up in Game 4 with a clean 3–0 win of his own averaging 63.51. Game 5 saw my first win of the season with a 180, a 20-dart leg and a 92 finish just enough to take a 3-1 win and see off a spirited performance from John Chisnall who had hit a neat 94 finish in taking the first leg of the game in 20 darts. With that win came the team bonus points as the victory was assured with an overall scoreline now 4-1.
After not being at his best last time out, Sean Edwards then showed what he was made of in Game 6 with a 68.32 average during a ruthless 3–0 win over Andy Kindred that included a 15-dart leg finished off with a seasons best 150 checkout. Going into Game 7 it was 5-1, and Matthew Jepson slammed the door shut on any hopes of a consolation point for the Navigation with two 180s and a 17-darter in a rapid 3–0 win over Mark Skelton.
Navigation never got a foothold, and Victoria never let up with five maximums and two big finishes in a statement win from the Withington lads.
