Wythenshawe CSC edged out St Anthonys C in a tight 4–3 encounter, clinching their first win of the season in the process and adding the gallon for good measure.
It was one-way traffic early on as the away side stormed into a 3–0 lead without dropping a leg. Dave Massey opened with a solid win over Michael Horrocks, posting three tons and the night’s least darts with a sharp 19-darter. Shane Lowe followed up with a 2-0 defeat of John Holt, before Dave Peploe delivered a powerful display in Game 3 to make it 3-0, hitting two 180s and finishing with a 58.94 average against Dale Holt who registered two tons of his own but couldn’t stem the tide.
St Anthonys mounted a spirited fightback in the middle stretch. Steve Williams got them off the mark in Game 4 with a 2–0 win over Josh Field, while Jimmy Starr made it 2–3 overall with a battling deciding leg win against Ray Pattison. Dan Tierney levelled the match at 3–3 with victory over Connor McCorkell in Game 6 which left things all square heading into the deciding seventh game, where Paul Brankin held his nerve to beat Eddie Williamson 2-0 and secure the match for Wythenshawe. Brankin also chipped in with a trio of 100+ scores and an 82 finish, the highest of the night.
