Ashton-on-Mersey CC came away from St Anthony’s Parish Centre with a solid 5–2 win, maintaining their strong start to the Division 2 season. They also edged the gallon 2–1 to take the night’s opener.
Chris Chapman got Ashton off to a sharp start, landing three 100+ scores, an 83 checkout and a 17-dart leg in a commanding 3–0 win over Mark Corrigan before Stephen Orton made it 2–0 with a 3–1 victory against Dom Batty, posting a 57.09 average and an 18 darter. Chris Higson added a third, overcoming Gary Molloy 3–2 to put Ashton one away from victory, but Shaun Gill responded with a standout performance for St Anthonys, hitting nine tons, a 69.18 average and sealing a 3–1 win over Mike Buckley, who still impressed with a 62.40 average and three 100+ of his own. Carl Paton then reduced the gap further to make it 3–2 overall, brushing aside Mark Robinson 3–0 with five tons and a tidy 58.56 average to bring the hosts right back into it.
But the comeback ended there. Billy Dawson secured the match with a 3–1 win over Mark Paton, and then Will Radcliffe rounded things off with another 3–1 win, this time over Ian Paton, adding three tons and a 47.29 average to complete a strong night for Ashton.
