These two sides met very recently in the league at the end of July in a game that saw a big 6-1 home victory for Royal Oak B, but since then the Butcher had claimed a memorable win over promotion hopefuls the Vine – their first win of the season, so the home side went into this rematch with high hopes of gaining revenge. They ultimately fell just short of acheiving that revenge, but put up a much stronger performance, taking the visitors to a deciding final game in a narrow 4-3 home defeat.

In game one, the Butcher’s Michael Wesemeyer gave the hosts a strong start with a 2–1 win over Andrew Mossop, though Mossop did register a tidy 22-dart leg, but the visitors replied immediately in game two as Jack Holt levelled matters with a 2–0 success against Stephen Flinders, checking out with a 24-dart leg and a 113 finish along the way.

Royal Oak B then moved in front when Rob Whiteside got the better of Gareth Sullivan 2–1 in game three, but Darren Moore hit back for the Butcher in game four, defeating Jaydon Strong 2–0 to square the match at 2–2.

Mark Gilmore restored the away lead with a 2–0 win over Liz Sweeney in game five, before The Sledgehammer Steve Foster held his nerve in game six, beating Rory Pessagno 2–1 to make it 3–3, despite Pessagno firing in a 115 checkout.

That left the decider, and it was Pete DeCordova who sealed the win for Royal Oak B, taking a 2–0 victory against Stuart Watson to clinch the match 4–3.
