Cringlewood A edged a cracking contest against Volunteer, sealing their first league win of the season after a strong finish. Volunteer had started the night brightly, taking the gallon 2–0 and looking set to carry that momentum into the singles — but it was Cringlewood who found their stride when it mattered.

In Game 1, Christopher Grinnell got Volunteer on the board early with a 3–1 win over Alex Martin, but Ellis Mulhern brought the home side level in Game 2, sweeping aside Tony Grinnell 3–0. Mulhern fired in five 100+ scores, finished with a 20-dart leg, and recorded a superb 68.32 average — the best of the night.

Game 3 swung back in Volunteer’s favour as Toni Williams outlasted veteran Phil Lauder 3–2. Williams put in a tidy display, checking out on 66 and pinning a 24-darter along the way.

Cringlewood hit back in Game 4 with David Huddlestone edging a five-leg scrap against James Roberts. Huddlestone had three 100+ scores to Roberts’ five, but managed to take it 3–2 in the end, levelling the match at 2–2.

Volunteer moved ahead again in Game 5, with Gary Williams dominating Mick Dennie in a 3–0 win, while notching five 100+ scores, but from there, Cringlewood took control. Luke Mulhern won a pivotal Game 6 to bring the sides level, seeing off Karl Bannister 3–2. Mulhern’s 18-dart leg was the fastest of the night, and his 72 checkout stood as the highest finish across both teams, while Bannister impressed with a match-high seven 100+ scores of his own, but it was Luke who took the deciding leg to force a deciding game.

With it all square at 3–3 heading into Game 7, Cringlewood’s Ray Levesconte delivered a 3–0 victory over Ryan Grinnell — backed by four ton-plus scores and a 26-dart leg — to seal the match and a first win of the season for Cringlewood.
