Sale Excel 4 – 3 Bulls Head
Sale Excel edged a hard-fought contest against Bulls Head 4–3 at the Excelsior, repeating the narrow scoreline from a fortnight ago, and with the added bonus of a 2–0 gallon win. These two promoted sides have had a reasonable time of it in Division 2, both clear of the relegation zone, but Sale’s two 4-3 victorys in the sides’ recent fixtures sees them in fifth place with the Bulls five points behind in seventh.
Warren McCoubrey got the hosts underway in Game 1 with a 3–0 win over Harry Simper, while Danny Chua doubled the lead, seeing off Allan Simper 3–1, while registering four tons and a 91 finish along the way.
Rob Barber brought the visitors back into it in Game 3 with a strong 3–0 win over Peter Sage, but Jimmy Nolan made it 3–1 to restore the two game cushion for the Excel in Game 4, beating Steve Hazlehurst 3–1.
Bo Bowman kept the Bulls Head in the contest with a 3–1 win over Hannah Tague in Game 5, but there was no comeback to be had as Ryan Potts answered back for Sale with a 3–1 win against Mark Jepson. Potts notched four tons; Jepson replied with three of his own.
That left it 4–2 and out of reach, but Bulls Head had the final say, as they took the last game through captain Iain Fish, who swept past Marvin Daniel 3–0 to make it 4-3 overall.
Next up for both teams is the last 16 KO Cup, Bulls Head facing Division 1’s Urmston Sports Club, while Excel take on Burst from Division 4.
